Ukrainian Historians amidst the War: Current Problems and Challenges
In my presentation, I would like to focus on three challenges which Ukrainian historians face. The first and foremost challenge for Ukrainian historians is to respond to Russian imperial propaganda. They have to confront this propaganda not only within Ukraine but also abroad. This problem became particularly urgent in 2014. At that time, Russia already had a well-thought-out, state- and society-supported, very strong aggressive imperial narrative, to which Ukraine was not really ready to respond. In Ukraine, the process of creating a narrative about its past was slow and gradual.

The second challenge emerged after 24 February 2022. This is the question of what to do during the war? Where to find the power to continue working in your profession? What topics should be researched?

The third question facing Ukrainian historians today is how to document modern warfare. In the world of social media and modern means of communication, how to record information about events that are changing very quickly?
